It certainly does. I've been very lazy about it for the last month and am reaping the benefits having got my finger out recently.

With regards to hamstrings affecting the back, while I'm gently stretching forward and touching my toes, I roll my neck and then do gentle front crawl type movements with my arms and can feel it work out the niggles in my lower back.
