Just wondered if anyone else has had strange txts from Halifax I received one yesterday saying I had arranged a meeting for 3 0 click today an was to call a number if it wasn't me

I have just received another saying
Alert: Your Internet Banking phone numbers were changed on the 15/09 at 20:43:10. If you DID NOT do this call 08456020000 or +441132798302 from abroad.

Now obviously I'm not going to call as it may be a scam but has anyone else had this
P's they don't currently have my new phone number either so must be a scam

Just a warning for others I will however go see the bank tomorrow

Best thing is to go online, find the correct phone number for the bank, call them and ask.

Almost certainly thus is a scam to get your login info from you.

Last clue, is it personalised to yiu or generic?

Report online via their site now. It is actually a Leeds branch number. The 01132 798302 number did belong to the branch that was opposite the railway station in Leeds.

According to http://www.halifax.co.uk/aboutonline/security/common-threats/identity-theft/ those two numbers are both Halifax (well, the second number is correct if the 9 and 8 are swapped).

I'd phone your branch or the number from the website soon, as if it's a scam I don't get who is going to gain anything by sending the real numbers in the SMS.
See above for branch location for the 01132 number.
Swapping the 8 & 9 should be Commercial Street branch in Leeds.

Yep, so both numbers are valid. Something doesn't sound right, I'd be phoning the bank ASAP to see what has changed on the account, if anything.

It doesn't stand out to be a scam SMS, being there is nothing to gain. However, as part of a number of SMSs it could just be designed to gain a false sense of security.

From whats been said, the OP banks with the Halifax, the number belongs to a former branch in Leeds. Which also has two of the largest Call Centres for the Halifax in it.
I'd be online reporting it to them now.

I used to get constant texts from Santander. They were genuine, but they were not for me. One of their customer's had given my phone number by mistake. Several annoying phone calls ("what's your account number" "I don't have an account" etc) until I reached someone smart enough to understand my problem, and tell me they couldn't help me. A year later it happened again, and their system had improved to the point they could look up my phone number, and delete it from the account records.

TL;DR - it's probably a genuine message, just not intended for you.

Or call the number on the back of your card.
They may just turn round and say there's nothing they can do if your account is cleared, because you failed to act.

I get texts on a regular basis from Lloyds, usually advising I've set up something from my current account. As I don't have a Lloyds account, I'm not overly worried. The numbers check out, so I'm assuming someone wasn't paying attention when they originally set up their details for their account
