hey, i love my carrera

+1

The Apollo range are a bit cheap but they carrera + boardman range are excellent, i have 2 carrera `s and they have been fine, for every horror story you hear there are many more bikes that are fine, they just do not make interesting reading .

It has always been my experience with big companies, that you only hever hear when they get it wrong, and rarely when they get something right. When I was out on Wednesday I bumped into a guy who'd ridden the trail down from Sunderland to Stockton; he'd had a Halfords bike for four years and loved it.

Anyway we'll see what happens when they open this morning

Take it back for a refund, then get a decent bike from Decathlon.

Can't go wrong with a bike from decathlon. As long as you're not a bike snob.

I've had mine since last August, done over 1000 miles on it and apart from replacing a frayed gear cable, had NO problems with it.

I would add that this bike is only ridden on tarmac for a very few miles, 95% of the time I'm on rough tracks, rocks or gravel. So it gets some shaking about.

Yup. Look at the second one, the shear point is the same colour as the rest of the sprocket which tells me it was done during manufacture. The other two, post manufacture but I suspect pre-fitting. I'm willing to bet they knew and let me ride away on it anyway, I'm going to go bonkers with them...

+1 defo broken. I had a cheapo Appollo Hybrid once. Not the best bike in the world but I did about a thousand miles on it before giving it to my son , not all cheap bikes are crap but it looks as iof yours is. Try and get money back as unfit for purpose.

Buy bike at Halfords. Assembled and "checked" by some 16 year old monkey after two weeks training to be a "bike mechanic" = potential trouble.
Much better visit recommended LBS and get the job done properly.
Alternative, if you have some skills (quite probably more than the kid who "assembled" the bike), strip and rebuild yourself. Then you know it's OK.
The cassette needs replacing, no teeth should be missing, it's broken, replacement required, no argument.

Agree on everything you say here! Can't afford to go to my local LBS at the moment though I'm 40 next year so I think I know where I'll be hinting people go for my birthday present

I'm more then happy to have a go at learning to set it up myself, I learned about fixing cars through having bangers after I first passed my test and it stood me in enough stead to end up on a motor racing team, so I like to think I'm handy with a spanner; I just need to know what to turn and how far...

The cassette *will* be replaced; I've phoned them and the bike manager (probably marginally older than the kid on the desk I suppose) is waiting to receive me once my wife has returned from her morning Zumba class, whatever that is ;)

Well that is good news at least. Hope you get a better bike back than the one that you take in

Apparently, Halfords prefer to handle complaints in-store & will do almost anything to keep them from reaching head office.

May be worth bearing in mind
