I think we've reached the point where fuel costs are resulting in people looking at alternatives. Which is good.

The Glue that binds us together.
From what i have seen the last two times i have been in halfords, is people buying cheap £100 mountain bikes, i have only been in there twice this week, once to buy something and once to take it back, while i was there there was a very irrate customer in there who was not very happy with the service, i was not happy myself will not be going back.

Purely anecdotal, but I got back into cycling this year, partly as I missed it, partly for fitness, partly because I work nearer to home and can cycle to work some days, and yes, save some ££ on petrol. As it happens I bought s/h, so I'm not part of the statistics! But it's good to hear that it is a general increase in all bike sales.

Two of my mates have since started cycling to work and one has bought a new bike (after seeing my single speed).

As for bad weather cycling, sorry but on shitty winter days I'm taking the car! (no showers at work either so its a practical thing as much as anything).

Halfords are so in your face though, when I first went to look at a bike I didn't even think of looking anywhere else, simply because I didn't stop to consider where else I could get a bike from.
