Guys, on the contrary I just realized there is a 20% discount on all the Carrera bikes!!...

Erm, where did you see that Dino? It's not mentioned on their website so far as I can see and there weren't any signs up at Halfords when I went on Thursday. And the manager failed to mention it when I was chatting to him too

It was mentioned on their website the day before but now they've gotten all hush hush about it. The offer only applies to online orders on Carrera bikes till this sunday evening, but also to reserve and collect orders as well. That's why the manager didn't mention it!

Im really peeved off though - i tried to do a reserve and collect order today at about four different shops. Each times the website said there was stock, but when i phoned up the shop just to be sure - guess what - there was none! Now the website says ALL carrera virtuoso bikes are out of stock and are only coming back in SEVEN weeks, by which time the offer would have expired anyway...

I have to admit, talking on the phone to halfrauds was like speaking English to monkeys. When I asked one of the guys if there was stock on the bike, he was like "Err sorry mate it's a busy here so do you want to get down here and check it out yourself" - It takes me an HOUR to get down there! Doesn't getting down there make my reserve and collect order completely and utterly useless?!

My conclusion is that Halfraud guys have absolutely NO clue as to what they're doing.

I'll agree on that point. I recently wanted a handlebar bag and asked if it was a universal fit.

The fella said "Yes it is but it depends what bike you've got".

Classic!

make them an offer ;) nothing stopping you making an offer. You might get lucky .
Ribble put their prices up across the board 5% last week. I was on their site placing an order for some wheels and when the page refreshed the price had gone up £15  I thought I was ordering the wrong wheels so cancelled the order.
Put me right off so I didn't order anything in the end.

well as the saying goes 'you pay peanuts......' I always ask to speak to the organ grinder. At least you stand some chance of communicating:biggrin:

No wonder, they've just quietly raised their prices. A couple of weeks ago, I was going to get either a subway or virtuoso, ordered my C2W vouchers and now the prices have gone up. Way above the rate of inflation. Why's this happening in a recession. Now I'm going to use the vouchers at a decent bike shop and get the Sirrus sport.
Greed, Greed and more Greed ;)

Thats terrible, a company in business to make money and they are making a profit, whatever next

Out of interest the company you work for are in business to give things away and not make a penny?? or could they be in business to make a profit? Hope its the first option as it would be totally wrong for you to work for someone making money when you complain about another company making some.

The price on the bike was £499.99 but when we went to the computer to see if there was any stock, the price was actually £549.99. I know by law if the ticket say a price then I should get it at that price but as I wasn`t really buying at that time i not sure if that counts.

The ticket price is what's called 'an invitation to treat' in contract law. It's not binding.

If the shop says it's more there's not much you can do other than go elsewhere or ask for a discount.

I think you have to sell something at a specific price for at least 28 days before you can advertise it as the 'usual price' in a sale.

I think that is right...where I used to work, in a shop, we had a little thing saying that everything had been full price, somewhere, for 28 days before it was discounted, just below the refund policy.

Gosh, you're so right heartattack, why didn't I think of that, instead of thinking along the lines of ETHICS but hey, I forgot what shop we're talking about here

Sorry but what the hell is ethics got to do with anything, business is business period, and as for what company we are talking about, well that has also zero to do with businesses making a profit, unless of course you think all businesses should make nothing and then close due to insolvency.

Sorry but life is life and businesses are there to make money for the owners/shareholders/investors etc not to appease tight fisted people who think they should be given products for less than the market will pay. Maybe you should start working for yourself and then you'll soon learn the meaning of being in business, or fold and go under cause you do work for nothing as you think its the right way to go.

Halfords are generally good with prices, dont forget they sell allsorts, and bikes for the general user mainly i think? If you want specailised treatment go to a specialised shop. And I for one would miss it if it wasnt there.

I like paying a fair price but during a recession and a chain takes advantage of the boom in business due to C2W in their biking section, they then put up their prices while others are lowering theirs, I find this to be taking the pi$$, so I'll go to a proper bike shop. Just like I go to a proper chocolate shop, when I buy my chocolate.

Aww I feel so sorry for you, as you feel so hard done by, expecting a recession to make things cheaper, thats not always the case, as you are finding out

Oh and I'm glad you buy your chocolates from what you class as a proper chocolate shop, as mine wouldn't be any good for you they are too expensive for your shallow pockets, even more so as we also increased our prices in this recession, but thats because the cost of chocolate has gone up 60% in the last 8 months, but we don't mind as we're enjoying a boom with everyone buying them as they stay in and eat.:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

You obviously didn't read my post correctly. I go to a proper chocolate shop, I wouldn't lower my standards and go to your's. Good day!
