No wonder, they've just quietly raised their prices. A couple of weeks ago, I was going to get either a subway or virtuoso, ordered my C2W vouchers and now the prices have gone up. Way above the rate of inflation. Why's this happening in a recession. Now I'm going to use the vouchers at a decent bike shop and get the Sirrus sport.
Greed, Greed and more Greed ;)

Yep, know how you feel

I was hoping to get the Vanquish on C2W but, thanks to the 10% price hike, my £500 LOC will no longer cover it

Lots of bikes have shot up in price, it's not just Halfrauds. Dawes in particular have taken big hikes. It's not a local prob, but due to cost of far eastern manufacturing and componant sources at the moment.

Supply and demand...

They have increased their prices a month or two before the 2010 bikes are released so that when they have the predictable sale the savings will look so much better on the '09 bikes.

I think you have to sell something at a specific price for at least 28 days before you can advertise it as the 'usual price' in a sale.

Daniel.

I think that's called trying to pull the wool over the public's eyes.

None of their recent Half Price Raleigh bikes were actually on the Raleigh website.

Obviously they were some sort of licensed product.

Happens all the time... unfortunately people see "50% OFF" and think it's a bargain without doing any research.

How many pairs of shoes, handbags, belts etc do wives buy because they're (allegedly) half price ??

It's not just Halfords, bike prices, component prices and clothing will all be up. Due to increased manufacturing costs and the weakness of the £ against foreign currencies.

Clearly Halfords reported profits are nothing to do with recent price hikes.

Obviously this bit of good news, is clearly bad news. Things would be much better if they were on the brink of going bankrupt!

Personally I think it's a good thing. If you don't like what they are doing, shop somewhere else!

It's funny, the Specialised Sirrus I've been looking at for the same amount of time as the Virtuoso hasn't gone up in price. So as far as components excuse goes, enough said.

I'm not complaining about people making a profit, more about being ripped off.

I'm personally thinking the "price hike before a sale price" theory has a lot going for it. [a] it'll make any sale price look even more fantastic and prices for the new, soon-to-be-released models will seem all that more reasonable compared.

Or, I'm probably talking nonsense.xx(

Guys, on the contrary I just realized there is a 20% discount on all the Carrera bikes! Seems very weird that the price rise and price cut came JUST before and after the tube strike..hmm.

Anyway, Im very tempted to buy a Carrera Virtuoso now!

You believe your wife when she tells you that? And does she believe you when you tell her how much you spent on a bike? Such is the nature of marriage...;)

I was quite lucky that when I went into Halfords on Tuesday to look at the bikes because I too are joining the C2W scheme. I went up to the assistant and said that I am joining the C2W scheme and looking at prices before I go and order the collection letter. Im interested in the carrera fury and can I try it etc he was quite helpful. The price on the bike was £499.99 but when we went to the computer to see if there was any stock, the price was actually £549.99. I know by law if the ticket say a price then I should get it at that price but as I wasn`t really buying at that time i not sure if that counts. The assistant was really helpful and said that we could order/reserve it for you and then you will be able to buy it at £499.99. So I was well chuffed
