Does anyone know if Halfords will reduce the price of their 2008 Carrera Vulcan V-Spec further after christmas?
It's currently £199 down from £299, but I guess the original price was over inflated to make the sale saving look good.
I've seen a couple of posts on the internet to suggest that they have previously reduced it to £149 after Christmas, presumably to make way for the next years model.
I'm looking to get one ASAP, but don't mind waiting till boxing day or whatever if I can save myself £50.

Thanks,
Gareth.

They have an offer where you get £20 in vouchers for accessories too. (Plus the 10%)

They put it on the web page now and again, but you have to keep looking out for it.

Must be better as a buyer going in after xmas than before. Difference must save £50

I would not be tempted by the pre xmas sales - they will have to ramp it up after as they will be very overstocked and have lots of bills to pay.

Whatever Halfords do - try LBS to see if they can match or better the deal. They would be daft not to.

Not that this is a bad bike but - I would say go for a better bike for £200 after xmas - you will not regret it.

Thanks everyone for the comments.
I think I've settled on this bike as it feels right, it's quite light and has decent enough equipment.

If I were to try a proper bike shop, what other model would be a close contender to the Carrera? My budget for bike alone is really £180, as I want to get some accessories too, but I guess a bike shop would be happy to throw in some free stuff (albeit I pay that little bit extra for a bike), so swings and roundabouts I guess.

Thanks,
Gareth.

after stories on here over and over again, I wouldn't ride it home or indeed anywhere without checking everythign was tight as a minimum, I'd want a competent mechanic to check it over properly

I intended picking it up boxed and assembling myself as I have read some horror stories too.

Maybe the policy has changed, but when I bought a Halfords bike about 8 years ago they were very reluctant to let me take the thing away 'unassembled'.

If I reserve it on their website for store collection, they tell me that:

"Bikes reserved online are supplied boxed for home assembly"

They then ask me:

"Have your bike professionally assembled? This is a FREE service, please allow 3 days (including weekends) before collecting your bike from your chosen store"

To which I can answer "Yes please", or "No thanks".

I really think the 'no thanks' should be in bold and capitals.

Halfrauds run our cycle to work scheme and wouldn't let me have a bike boxed fand unopened or "warranty reasons". No way do I want them touching a bike of mine after the stories I've heard.
