Absolute rubbish ...........
Many people buy goods eg cars on finance and houses with mortgages and insure in the event of damage or loss. Insurance is very necessary.
You are asking some one to indemnify you against pecuniary loss. If you didn't have insurance you would still be liable to pay for the bike under the finance agreement you have taken out, even if it was the C2W scheme, unless your employer took pity on you and wrote the outstanding balance off.
When my first Brompton was stolen on 2004 my insurer insisted I use their supplier who would source an alternative. I had a vision of being supplied some crap folder that is advertised in the back of the Daily Express or the sort of folder that achieved fame as an IKEA bike. So I put my foot down refused point blank stating that the insurer was required to put me back in the position I was prior to my Brompton being nicked. Told them 1) Brompton are a specialist bike that as far as I know only specialist bike shops supply 2) I wanted to purchase my replacement from the same place I bought it, Condor in London (there were no shops doing Brompton in Cambridge at that time) which would enable me to get the exact same accessories that were on it when it was nicked. So the insurer (Churchill) agreed and I was on my way to Condor about 2 weeks later. The insurer would pay Condor what ever replacement cost less £50 excess. To replace everything came to about £780.00. The insurer also paid for my train travel as I refused to have it sent by courier least it went missing or was damaged. Result.
Be firm and stick to your guns. If your bike is still available and you want it replaced say so and by the most convenient method for you. Don't forget any accessories you had on it as well including any lock that was broken when it was nicked. Supply pics to them if you have any. For your new one buy a decent lock such as an Abus Granit X Plus. My Brompton that was stolen was locked with a Kryptonite New York lock - absolute sh1t. Never ever use a Kryptonite lock of any type.
