Hairy Chest?

Anyone got a hairy chest? I purchased a Polar computer with Heart Monitor strap a few months back. And basically the heart monitor did not work until I shaved off my carpet for the summer. It now works!! but I have to shave it once a week otherwise it stops works. I seem to grow hair at an extreme rate. What a pain up the ass...Polar should have a warning on the box!!

I had a similar problem with one a few years back, good conductivity is needed with the skin - hair is a good insulator.

KY jelly was recommended in the instructions as a conductive agent. No way I was walking into my local chemist and asking for that!

Get someone to buy you some KY Jelly, as Andrew-the-tortoise recommends.

Shaving a 2 inch strip across the centre of the chest isn't really a very good look.

Shave parallel strips. Then do the same at right angles. It might be best if you measure it first, to ensure your nipples are centred on the bits left unshaved. Otherwise, it may look slightly odd.

I have a hairy chest and a Polar.

My back is less hairy, so I wear the Polar back-to-front. Works fine.

You just need to wet the sensor - saliva does the trick.

I have a Sigma HR monitor, & a hairy chest and never had a problem.

I would rather thow it away and go without than shave my chest though.
