Hi, had an unexpected windfall yesterday, and suggested to the better half about buying a new road bike to replace my planet x pro carbon.. Not that theres anything wrong with it, but its always nice to purchase new bike equipment right??.. Having just bought a new orbea loki ltd mountain bike a few weeks ago, followed by new helmet, body armour etc after coming off and breaking ribs, she totally poo pooed the idea of any further bike investments!! After a few beers tonight, and paypals interest free credit i decided on a set of fulcrum zero wheels to upgrade from existing team vision 30 wheels fitted to my bike!! Being slightly bigger than i should be, im aware losing a few pounds would have as good an effect, but surley losing weight and new wheels is even better??? Any way, what im asking, is a wheel upgrade really as good as what im told?? 600 gms lighter! My thinkng is i can use them for hopefull custom build in the future!!

I've not voted as you missed off the 'Drink less beer, save your money and keep your Better Half happy' option.

In between here and there
Cup and cone Ceramic bearings that constantly needed adjusting to stop lateral play, they hate with a capital H wet weather as they are not sealed bearings and the rims wear really quickly sub 4k on mine. Send them back lol!!

Spend the £549 on a deposit on a bike :-).

If you keep them for dry weather and keep them serviced they are great wheels!

I know a guy who had the exact same problem with his Zero's. I'm a big fan of the lower end wheels (5's & 7's) but I'd hazard a guess the more expensive wheels are not for everyday riding.

For you, with your ride history there is absolutely no performance justification and likely no good reason to spend a single penny in new wheels.

Other than one simple fact ...which is that they are Purdy and you love em

If you have the means, do it. Anything that makes you proud to ride more has to be a good thing.

My wheels cost more than my the rest of my bike... are a ridiculous investment, look brash, are loud and I adore them

The thing is, the wheels might cost more than your bike but they can always be put on a new bike if you upgrade the frame.
I tried to justify new wheels to myself with that argument. Untill I realised how fast carbon rims wear down...and end up in the bin!!

Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone
