This is where video comes in!

Had a driving instructor with pupil pull up alongside at some lights, and started telling me I should be on a cycle path not the road.

Asked him why he thought that .. and if he was aware of the DfT code of conduct for cyclists.

He claimed he was and we left it at that.

Then sent the video to the company asking why their driver was teaching his pupils that cyclists should be on the cycle path when it was neither in the Highway Code, and (at the speed I was travelling) was advised against bythe Department for Transport.

I then expressed my concern over his poor professional knowledge, and asked what they were going to do about the wrong information being given to their pupils

Got a lovely letter of apology from the driving school and (if you believe the letter) he had been told he was in error and they had also told the pupil that the instructor was wrong and that cycle paths were discretionary and not always suitable

It was caught on video and shown to the driving school, along with an email detailing the Highway Code rule #63, asking why they hired people who did not know the Highway Code, and advising them that unless I received an apology that day from their instructor I would be contacting the Driving Standards Agency. Later that evening I received an extremely apologetic and contrite telephone call from the instructor concerned. Job done.

Some people shout and rant and rave, you will find most people who say they will "rip your head head off" are blowing smoke, as I always say in such circumstances, if someone is going to assault you, usually they will just do it (yes ive been "assaulted" - not in a road related incident however), not inform you that they are about to do it, repeatedly over a period of a few minutes. So in such a case I'd tell them to either get on with it or get the f*ck out of my way.

So true.

Indeed. I recently had a fellow try to push me over whilst arguing about his dogs and I was still clipped in with one foot - apparently me stopping whilst he did nothing to control them was not going slow enough. I punched him the face as I steadied myself, I think I was more surprised than him. When he again asked if I wanted to "make something of it" and I calmly (again to my surprise) explained that I thought I already had, I had punched him in the face and he'd done nothing about it, he seemed a bit non-plussed and not sure what to do next. Wasn't much of a punch really but I think he got a shock and suspect he's one of the full frontal aggression and raging bully types and is used to sensible folk just backing down rather than escalating the situation. Once was enough though, the next fellow might be prepared to back up his rage with violence and I'm back to my usual cringing ways.

As a driving instructor myself, this makes me cringe......nothing worse than reading about lack of professionalism in your chosen career by others.

Rest assured that we don't all shout crap at passing road users!!!!, or even at our pupils!
