Current groupset is tiagra 10speed. in the future I would like to upgrade to the shimano 105 5700 groupset. I see the new shimano 105 is 11speed, will the 10speed still be available?

No reason you cant go 11 though if its wheels you are worried about you can simply remove one of the cogs to make it fit your 10 speed wheels

I'm about to take off a 5700 groupset from a new bike being delivered today. It will have been shop-fitted but unused. PM me if you are interested in buying.

Not much of an upgrade going from 10 speed Tiagra to 10 speed 105, they will be very similar. I'd save my money up for another year and then get 11 speed Ultegra.

Does anyone know of a "universal chart" that can list all current groupsets, in order of price, and showing a very short...like 5 word...explanation of the difference between it and the next in the list.

I cant fathom the spectrum of groupsets available from all the manufacturers and suspect that there really isn't that much between them, except weight.

I was interested in 11speed but not aware of the changes and cost. Just to put you in the picture. I have bought a new bianchi intenso which comes with tiagra

set up. I am going to upgrade in the future, if 11 speed upgrade is possible I would go for that

Can anyone explain in layman's terms what I need, I looked on the net and I get bogged down in technical explanation. Obviously the lbs will do the job. It's so I know myself what's required

In layman's terms - it's a waste of time and money. But if you are determined to throw money at your LBS, then it just depends which items of your current groupset you want 105 labels on...

If you're upgrading the whole groupset, you'll need cranks, levers, front derailleur, rear derailleur, cassette. You may need a new BB, my 105 runs on an HTII bottom bracket, if your Tiagra does the same it should be ok. While you're having all this work done, you may as well replace the cables and outers as the routing will probably be different (iirc new 105 cables come down the bars not out of the side of the lever).

In my experience it's the levers and the derailleurs that make the difference between Tiagra and 105. Things get a little smoother.

I doubt I'll be bothering to upgrade to 11 speed. If it ever gets to the stage where I can't get replacements for 105 bits, I'll get a new bike.

I'd just change the shifters. That's where the better quality is and when I made a similar change there was an improvement. Not enough to wet yourself over but as a lifelong Campag man I just hated the exposed cables on Tiagra. The mechs make no difference as they are just slave units and I doubt if anyone could tell the difference in shift quality between Tiagra and Dura Ace.
