Hello All,

I am considering saving for the campagnolo anthena groupset for my trek 1.5, however i dont know whether it'll take two more sprokets (my current Tiagra set is 9 speed and the athena is 11 speed). Is there a way to find out? I looked at the Trek site and there is no contact to ask a direct question, there are dealer contacts; but i would imagine if i'm not buying they wont be interested...

Any help is much appreciated!!

Nine, ten and eleven speed Campag all use the same hub. However, as you are running a Shimano system at the moment Campag cassettes will not fit the hub. If you go down that route you will need either a new wheel or a replacement freewheel body that is Campag compatible.

Thank you very much! :-)

So it would be best to look for a shimano group? I cant afford to change the wheels as well, I would rather look into this as a seperate thing a year or so down the line.

Either upgrade (in bits if you like) to the superior 105 or save up and get the athena. Unless you can find a cracking deal on ultegra then 105 is still the best bang for buck.

Looks like Rival is a tad more expensive than 105 actually, but I'd still have the SRAM. SRAM and Shimano cassettes are interchangeable so no issues with the wheel.

Campag 11 speed Ergos are pretty good match with Shimano 9 speed mechs/cassettes.

See here.

FWIW I run Veloce 10 speed levers with an Ultegra rear mech, 105 front mech and a Shimano 9 speed cassette - using the "hubbub" cable routing on the mech. According to that article you'd not even need to change the cable routing if you were using 11 speed levers.

Must admit the Ergo levers are damn comfortable, try them out and see if their your cup of tea!
