Be grateful for some advice here -
I have a trek 5500 oclv with 7 speed Dura Ace groupset. I want to convert to 10 speed. This what I have managed to find out -
Option 1:
Rebuild back wheel for 10sp hub and cassette (12-27)
Am told that the rear mech (May) be adequate?? true?
Don't really want to change the crankset (cost) my current is 53/39 and am told that the 10sp chain will (probably) be ok?? True?
Front mech to remain
STI levers have to be replaced.
Cheapest option I could think of for some better lower ratios is to just change the chainrings for compact sizes? will this work?
If I spend too much it starts to become uneconomical and the frame is still in excellent condition, so would like to keep it if poss.
Appreciate any advice.....
P.s. I am not being a wuss but I am recovering from a ticker-prob and 39/23 on long climbs means, well I could do with a get out of jail free cog or two.
