Thanks....but the nearest Asda is about 3000 miles away. Whenever, I need any spares, I have to trawl round the e-bike shops, pay loads for the postage to get parts here, and then wait about two weeks for the postman.

Sorry, I didn't realise where you were. I guess your username is a clue! It would be quite a trip for a couple of cables.

Thanks all; now to get ordering from Wiggle. The trouble is they do a flat postage charge, so its not worth just buying something for just a few pounds. I shall have to treat myself to something else ae well.

This maybe? If you don't have a cycle specific cable cutter, you'll need one for gear cable outer, and this is pretty much one of the best you can get.

Well, the new cables have finally arrived, and so now to replace the old ones. Looking on the internet, every site seems to give a different method to replace the cables, or else such generalised instructions that I could have easily written them myself. I've removed the small triangular piece of plastic (one cross head screw) by the adjuster barrel, but this doesn't give access. Next, I've pulled off the handlebar grips, and then slid out the rotating part off the gripshift. Here I can see the cable running in a groove around the twist mechanism, before disappearing into a grease filled port in the static part. I've tried pushing slack cable in, to try to free the head of the cable, without success. I'm frightened of doing anything that I can't undo, since it could leave me without a bike for ages. Anyone with experience of what is probably the original gripshift?

There are multiple types of grip shift, so I'm not sure exactly which one you're talking about, although if yours is the same as in this video then it may be of some use.

More modern grip shifters you don't have to dismantle the shifter at all. Simply shift to the highest gear (for rear derailleur, opposite for front) peel back the rubber covering type thing, and push on the cable where it exits the shifter. The other end of the cable should pop out of a hole previously covered by the rubber covering. This is also where you will thread the new cable when refitting.

Thanks, it's a similar model though not quite the same. However when the video gets to the point I was at, it just says matter of factly, "slide the cable out of the gripshifter", whilst showing no detail at all, and even worse, warning of the dire consequences should you disturb the innards of the gripshifter.
