I know I could ring my lbs, but it's late and I'd forget tomorrow....

While it's on my mind, how much is it roughly to change the group tape on handlebars?

Just as an indication....

Is there much difference in all the types of tape? What it's the best to use?

Loads of different types of tape with different textures, you should try some different ones out in your LBS. I think I paid £12 for mine but prices can go from anything from £3 to £30 IIRC. I reckon the best types of tape would be one that's comfortable, grippy when you're riding and doesn't stain easily (not a problem with black).

I think Lizardskin tape is highly regarded.

For comfort you can't get better than specialized bar phat but it does give you a remarkably thick bar.
For light weight and performance, zipp tape is about right.

Your looking at £15 for either of these

My LBS charge £10 for basic cork tape fitted. I fit tape myself though, £5 for the same stuff at Wiggle. Haven't tried any of this fancy stuff, I find regular cork tape with a pair of gloves is more than enough padding.

There are a lot of different bar tapes to choose from. Some are thicker, softer and tackier than others and made of different materials. Some is more durable. I guess prices start around 5 quid and some of it can get a little pricey. I use Bontrager Gel Cork. I see it listed at J E James for 7 pounds or so. It is personal preference on what type you prefer. There are many different brands and types.

Cheers.

Sounds like I may need another visit in the very near future to the LBS again....

Loving it!

Another thumbs up for the Bontrager cork bar tape, easy to fit and easy to adjust / refit if needed.

I am thinking of changing mine from white to black, I say white, it was only white when first installed, it is now a grubby colour...
