Inflammation, ice for 15 minutes with frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel...and you should probably avoid the activity that caused it until it's better . You don't want soft tissue injuries to become chronic!

Thanks for the advice, folks. The only advice the nurse at a&e gave me was to take the pills for a week and buy more if I didn't feel it was getting better. She also said there was no way I could have broken a bone since I hadn't actually fallen off the bike, which I found a bit odd.
