30mph on a rock hopper with off-road tyres?

30km/h would be very impressive!

not sure mind how true a reading the cateye gives, and have to add that was on a totally smooth track and when i got that speed i couldnt talk or breathe properly afterwards.
and never got that speed again to be honest never really tried quite happy just plodding along at a speed thats comfortable really enjoying the cycling think giving up the car was best thing i could of done.

cheers

If you are doing 12 miles a day commuting, then you'll have a good level of fitness by the time the event comes along. Key thing is eat and drink whilst riding.
