I have a fantastic little route that goes west->east along the coast - completely unsheltered, going to see how fast I can go! Last time I went out in these conditions I was overtaking cars along the coastal road

Same here,slow as I am I generally overtake parked cars as well.

It was good ... I was fast!

If you live in the Fareham/Gosport area, may I recommend the coastal stretch from Titchfield Haven through to Gosport. With a tailwind it is bloody fast!

I took the off road option today, but lapped it the wrong way. The first half of my usual route heads eastwards, down the river and in amongst the trees so out of the wind but in amongst the mud'n'stuff so pretty slow.

The second half is along cycle paths so a good surface but straight into the wind, struggled to keep the speed in double figures some of the time.

If I had done the route anti-clockwise, I'd have had the benefit of the wind on the tarmac but been protected by the shrubbery when heading into it.

Good times, though, great fun and I'm still plastered in mud.

Ah! No .. you see that route is perfect! Only the coastal stetch is exposed, the rest of the route goes through a mixture of forest and the tall buildings of gosport - all of which block the wind
