What do you use to lube up your bottom bracket?
Looking to get stuff online as it's going to be hard to get into town between 9-5 these next few weeks

Bog standard lithium grease.

Although no doubt someone will be along to tell us it MUST contain a minimum of 50% elve's semen to be truly effective on an italian threaded BB

Just about any grease will do, even Vaseline.

Lithium grease from the local agricultural merchants at a fraction of the cost LBS's, garages and Halfords charge. It works on combined harvesters and tractors, it is plenty good enough for my bike!

Any grease containing a large percentage of Elven semen will do (Nice one Cubist)

Lithium grease for me too. Works fine.

One of my BBs has PTFE tape on the threads instead of grease and that's worked nicely

As a teenager I used to go through lots of bottom brackets and hubs until I started using lithium grease then life expectancy probably at least quadrupled. Admittedly I was using BSO quality components but the grease made a huge difference.

Is this for a sealed unit BB or for an old style bearing race or balls BB?

As has been said most greases will be okay it just depends how often you will have to regrease.

I've been using an LPS grease that I bought over 10 years ago from an LBS that no longer exists. I have used this for all my bearings, hubs to headset. It is a little thicker than standard grease but it lasts years. I cannot see anyone selling this anymore, not even on the LPS web site. I still have enough for another couple of services so might contact them to ask. Anyone else know where to get this grease?

Yep, Vaseline for all my bike bearings and threads.

For heaven's sakes, we are on bikes. Nobody needs dentists' drill lubes...lard would work pretty well.

The bike would feel a bit sluggish and unresponsive on a frosty morning if you put lard in your BB...

Aw Gawd. Don't tell me BB's need lubing.
I've never ever ever done that before. Ever. On either of my bikes in 5+ yrs of owning them from new.
