From what I have seen in mags and online it would appear that PP have spent the last five years making a game that looks fantastic. Yet the AI is still poor and the quickest way to brake when cornering, is to drive into another car and the only damage you get is a scraped bumper.

Overall a good game though and I still have fond memories of GT3 on the PS2.

Oh FFS I thought they'd changed that? That was the biggest realism-breaker for me on the previous GT games, bumper-car-ing each other round corners. Bollocks.

got it yesterday and played it last night.

Have to say that the format and the license tests, the interminable waits etc etc are exactly the same as GT4.... the graphics are not radically better (although lovely) and again lots of japanese sub-types of cars instead of an actual worldwide selection.

Then again, Karting is a fantastic addition and really good fun - can't wait to play the NASCAR (well, actually I can) and the Rally (which hopefully is excellent).

Not sure what this levels business is about. I'm at level 7 at the moment. Anyone know how many levels there are?

Got it at the weekend.

I haven't been so disappointed by a game since I bought Final Fantasy 8 way back 10(?) years ago.

Still all the flaws - dumb robot AI that just follows a line, don't race, and ram into the back of you if you happen to be in the way rather than trying to overtake you. No damage (not even scratched bumpers!), going off track that instantly disqualifies you doesn't apply to AI, moving between menu screens involves massive loading waits - even copying 12 odd gigs to the HD still results in a 20 second load just to go to the 'upgrade parts' menu! Upgrades still work in the same way and don't make any sense - being able to 'upgrade' to sports suspension and 5 gears on a car that already has it by design, ABS traction control and manual/automatic gears being a global game setting rather than sepcific to what cars have them (ABS and traction control on a 1950's VW campervan anyone?) And even more ridiculously awful cheesy lift music synth jazz than ever before - playing 'the entertainer' when fitting new wheels and changing the oil on your car? Oh eff off.

All the races are now very car-specific, so you no longer have 'your' car that you gradually upgrade over time to take on the faster and faster races before buying a new one when it just can't take it any more - every set of races you have to buy a new shitty Daihatsu or whatever to enter.

However, there are now EVEN MORE dreadful consumer-grade Japanese cars that you will NEVER DRIVE, so that makes up for it.

Until then, I'm Jezston on PSN - add me as a friend and I'll give you a race and maybe eek some form of enjoyment out of this game!
Shame GAME got rid of their 10-day money back guarantee. Think I'll be selling my copy on.
