Most GPS (and I suspect that the Bryton is the same) will have a "Mass Storage mode"

This mode simply puts the unit as a drive on the computer and you can then drag and drop files including the GPX tracks to the computer and upload into third party software
Maybe, and as i said the 35 did store the current data thats on the device in a folder on your hard drive (but its a little obscure), but deletes them if they are deleted from he device. It's not seen as an external device, unlike the garmin, I can't comment on the 40 or 50.
I cant remember, but pretty sure you had to connect to the site first, though I know they have made some changes.

I'm not familiar with the Bryton.....I just vaguely remember a reference to mass storage in the reviews when I was researching GPS units.
I ended up with an 800 for cycling and a Montana for walking and touring

You have got it wrong.
The 200 and 500 are basically the same machine except that the 500 has extras like HRM, Cadence, ambient temperature etc. They are glorified cycle computers. But with gps. You can add a route from bikeroutetoaster but it will be a breadcrumb trail, not maps.

If you want sat nav for the bike then you need the 705 or 800

Or any of the Etrex Legend / Vista / 10 / 20 / 30 new or old editions. And they'll run OSM (open street map) which is a zero cost way of getting decent maps onto the unit. My Etrex 20 currently holds routable and terrain maps for all of UK / Europe and USA. A lot of the time, I'm not even *that* lost these days

Can you use bike route toaster with the bryton?
What I did was create a tcx upload that to the bryton site, then to unit, it might be different now, the other thing is you can't import anything other than the data from brytons own units to the site for analysis, or couldn't, in other words a track from a garmin cant be used on their site, however a tcx can be exported and used on garmin's site and others, i.e. strava.
Seems they have a device manager, in case of interrupted internet connections. Which might seem to negate most things I have just said. Apart from using other units on their site

Garmin's Etrexes may not be perfect, but there are so many users of all the different models both here and in another place that you can get any question answered. I don't use Bikeroutetoaster with mine much anymore, there are better sites in my opinion... the new kid on the block gpxeditor has some very useful features and is still being improved.
