Got pedals but which shoe?

Looking for recommendations for first time spd user. There are so many designs from trainer-like to what look like studded football boots!
Have dual sided pedals on road bike and been commuting now for over a year. Current footwear are work boots (each weighs 1kg lol) with quite stiff soles but i reckon they may have had an effect on the few leisure 30 milers i've done especially going uphill! :heat:
Are there any decent cheap shoes out there to try out cleats?
Looked on Decathlon site, are there shoes any good?
Cheers

You'll need to decide between trainer type trail shoes (Spesh Taho etc) or competitive looking disco slippers. The former are good for commute/touring, and getting off and pushing on loose trails. The latter are stiffer and better for distance, but not so good to hike in.

If you want really cheap go for Sportdirect.com

By cheap we mean you'll probably need some new ones by Christmas.

If you're willing to take a punt for a decent pair, the new DHB shoes at Wiggle are less than fifty quid.

They have had good reviews.

Nowt wrong with Decathlon.

No plans to go hiking but do carry bike half mile down less than perfect entrance road to work so be handy to be able to walk in shoes. Didn't really want to spend more than £50ish that way if didnt get on with cleats it wouldn't be too sore on the wallet. This seems to be about the entry level price.
Thanks will have look at DHB ones.

just bought a pair of SPD shoes 1st time user out of sport direct 22 quid seem ok but if I need another pair in 6 months no big deal at least it gives me the chance to try them without spending to much cash and if I like the fact that I`m clipped in I can buy a better pair later on

I was in my local Giant franchise this morning (Twickenham) and they had a range of Shimano shoes (1/2 dozen styles, I'd guess), marked at £69.99 - 30%. Which puts them in the just-under-£50 price range. Might be worth looking out for. Certainly tempts me to get some, even though I'm not ready for clipless yet.

Thanks guys taken a punt on some half price Pearl Izumi mtb shoes online that were £45, will see what they're like when they arrive.
lordloveaduck luvin' the style, perfect colour coordination with my new shorts...:girldance:

Managed a 5 minute first visit to Decathlon and grabbed some bibs, gelpad looks rather good!
