A few questions, got my new bike on sunday and not sure if i like it yet, dont know if it is because i have been riding a full suss mtb and this is a hybrid (giant escape),the wheels i'm not sure about as they are so thin 26*1.5 the tyres are maxxis detonators, the rims are alex ace and can only take presta valves and there's also the disc brakes, so i am asking whether i would be better changing the rims and the tyres to something a bit bigger and do you need to do a lot of maintenance with the brakes, and how do i adjust the handlebars to get them up as it looks different with four rings round the thing, i think it is an a-head or something as you can tell i'm something of a newbie so any advice welcome.
thanks

I would stick with the tyres and brakes for a while before going to the expense of replacing them. When I first got a bike with 28mm tyres (I guess around 1 inch) I thought that was narrow Ive since put 25mm's on and bought another bike with 23mm's.

To raise a stem you'll need to loosen the ahead set as per this guide http://bicycletutor.com/adjust-threadless-headset/and move some of the spacers which are above the stem to below. If there's none unfortunately I think you'll need a new stem.

used it today front disc brake making severe squeeking noise when i use it, phoned bike shop today and they've told me to bring it in tomorrow, btw just put picture of it in photo gallery.

Looks nice Jim, other than the brakes (you're getting the lbs to look at that) I'd leave the other things for a while. If you still feel the same in a couple of months time perhaps you can reconsider.

When you get a new bike with disk brakes (I have the same one) I was told that I needed to go down a few hills with the brakes on to cook them (can't remember what the technical term was). Not sure if its that noise or that the brakes need adjusting etc (I have to admit that mine do squeal/squeak abit every now and again).

And I can't comment on the tyres as I swapped them for Marathon's as part of the purchase.
