Having decided to get fit, with the intention of riding to work, I bought my new bike today.

Opted for a Cannondale Bad Boy 26. Took it out for a quick spin this afternoon and I had a massive grin on my face for quite some time. I know it'll take a little while for me to reach the sort of fitness I need for the trip to the office, but I plan to keep at it.

Hehehe. Welcome onto a slippery slope Ken. I got a Cannondale Bay Boy 26" about 18 months ago and since then have turned into a roadie. The bad boy is pretty heavy so will help get you fit though and is rugged enough to withstand almost anything. Enjoy!

Hi Tollers, Cheers for the words of encouragement!
"Heavy" I actually thought it was fairly light. Well it'll be a bit lighter when I get shot of the mudguards!

Oh, whilst its not 'heavy' per se, it'll be about 4-5 lb heavier then a an equivalent priced road bike. Only really an issue if you want to race up hills though I reckon (just raced my mate in his BMC around Richmond Park, I thrashed him everywhere but up hills) .

But meh, dont get caught up in this pointless war against weight. Just ride and have a blast.

Nice choice of bike - my mate's just bought the same one and he loves it, pretty cool looking too!

;)....to the Forum, by the way!

I saw a Badboy with guy kitted out in orange on shaftesbury avenue today and almost shouted "B-B-Bikey" before realising that would make me sound like a loon!

Thanks for the replies and apologies for not getting back sooner, I've not been able to get to my pc for any decent length of time this week.

Fellow Badboy-er here. I opted for the 700c version. Its great fun innit? I might turn into a Roadie however.
If by "Roadie" you mean Drop bars etc. No chance, my back's bad enough as it is! Already thinking about another version for next year.

I totally agree about the cool looking comment. Although I have to find a pair of cooler mudguards than the full ones that are on it just now. (Any suggestions?)

My mate with the "Badboy" has Crud Catchers on his - and I'm not to keen on them. I've fitted Topeak Defender M1 / and M2 to mine(from Chain Reaction) but you can get them at any Topeak dealer.

I fitted the rear to the downtube and not the seatpost to get it closer to the rear tyre, then cannibalised a front one to make a guard for the seatpost(making it a full guard). The front one fits well on its own. They looked a bit bulky on 1.6 tyres, but when I changed to 1.85's they suited the bike.

I'm toying with the idea of a Badboy 700c or a Boardman for next year - noticed you were also thinking about bikes for next year. Any thoughts?

Thanks Bauldbairn, I'll have a look for the Defenders. Any chance of posting some shots of your set up?

I did consider a Boardman over the Cannondale so may have a look at that the one of the Hybrids . Need to get out on mine a bit more first though. Pretty sure whatever it is, I'll be looking seriously at disc brakes.
