When I open MS explorer and do a Google search, the results page displayed does not have the option button of "pages from the UK".

I've looked in 'Tools' and setting but can't see how to change it. Any idea how I can change it so that it does?

Where are you logging in from (home or work) and do you know who your ISP is?

Go to www.google.co.uk instead of www.google.com - if your ISP or work network connects to the web in another country it may well go to a different global Google site.

Tools and settings in IE will make no difference to these kind of things on Google - there won't be a button to tick saying show UK option or something, as Google is just one of many websites and IE is the tool to view them with.

However, clear cookies and temp files cache, close and open IE and try again.

One point.....if you are using a proxy server based in say USA, you will only get the US version of Google.

That's right - but typing www.google.co.uk as opposed to .com should overide that and give the UK version with the UK tick box.

Not sure I'm explaining myself very well. I'm trying to get Explorer to recognise google.co.uk as my default search engine, but I don't know how. At the mo it defaults to google.com and I don't seem to be able to change it. It was fine until I 'upgraded' to Explorer 8

If I use Firefox, with Google as the default search engine, it automatically uses google.co.uk

I'm beginning to hate Explorer. Grrrrrrrr :boxing:

If you mean have it as your homepage then:

Firstly navigate to the page you want as homepage, in this case www.google.co.uk

then go to Tools> Internet Options > Use Current > OK

did it work?

No, BBC News is my homepage, but the little search box, top right in the bar above the home page is set for 'google', so if I type a search in there it opens the google results page. But the .com not co.uk. How do I change it?

I think I know haow it should work -open Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Search Settings. This should then show Explorer Add Ons, which would include any search engines chosen, and at the bottom of that page there is an option to add more search providers.

Seems easy enough, and on my work PC it works fine, but I can't get my home pC to accept a new search provider. I'll have another go tonight and report back.

Having said that, I'm not sure why I use explorer anyway. In terms of page loading speed it can be very slow compared to Firefox or Chrome. Maybe time to abandon it. What's everyone else using?

Starting to warm to Chrome myself - although it does faff about loading pages sometimes. I don't really mind IE 7 or 8 though.

I've just tested the link I posted earlier

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en-en/default.mspx#

It works - follow the instructions in the yellow panel to the right (ie searching for TEST from a google.co.uk page and coying the resultant URL in the address bar to the first box) - then call it something different to Google - such as G UK to stop it conflicting, tick the 'make this default search engine' box and tick ok.

The search box in the top right should now give you results from the UK google page.

If that doesn't work, try instead adding the UK page as a 2nd home page on a seperate tab.
