Oh dear, I AM old enough to remember the original, now I feel old...

Interesting idea. I wonder how it'll turn out.... Not entirely convinced by Martin Clunes - I think of him as too jolly, but it could work.

I think Martin Clunes is a good choice.

That program where he plays the miserable Doctor (sorry, can't remember what it's called ) proves that he can be as arsey as the Reggie Perrin character needs to be

But I'm only guessing as I've never seen the original, just clips

Me too, Arch.

Didn't enjoy the original version (and I know some people regard them as 'classics', but that's a brush too widely applied IMO). Something tells me I won't be bothering with the new one either.

(Uncle Mort - must've written my bit about 'classics' at the same time you were writing yours. It's true though: how to create a 'classic' tv programme? Wait 30 years and unearth it again!)

True, I did think of Doc Martin as I typed... I dunno, Reggie had a sharpness to him, it wasn't just grumpiness. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

I'm surprised (and relieved) that no one has yet thought of remaking The Good Life. I caught an episode over Christmas, and with the exception of Margo's frocks, I don't think it's dated much at all. And the whole self sufficiency thing is very trendy again now. But I don't think you could better the original.
