I acknowledge riders, horse riders, joggers and car drivers who let me pass when they could have driven in such a way as to make me brake, swerve or slow down.

On my morning training ride today I came across a loose dog that tried to chase me down. It was at the bottom of a long steepish drag and i was about to go up it. The dog obviously didn't fancy the extra effort.

Anyway there were riders coming the other way and I made a point of waving them down to warn them. A couple of riders weren't about to acknowledge me, so I thought your choice mateys there's a nice surprise awaiting you, serves you right. The others who bothered to listen were warned appropriately.

I also acknowledge car drivers who wait patiently to pass me or are otherwise courteous but I have a different hand signal for the ones that nearly clip me...

Hi Chris
I'll give you a wave if I see you around and about town.... I've generally noticed that if I wave / nod and make eye contact then I get a response. Although the group of roadies who flew past me on Sunday morning at Aspley marina without so much as a morning must have deemed it below them to acknowledge a Trek hybrid happily plodding along at 12mph...
Cheers
Matt

Hi Matt
I'll watch out for you. I work in town and go by Aspley every day but on the motorbike as yet. Have made it on the pushbike but that bloody hill back to Skelmanthorpe from town kills me too much to do it everyday. Am waiting till I get my new bike and some daylight before I make it a regular thing.

I generally nod/wave at passing cyclists, but don't worry if they don't acknowledge.

What really bugged me recently was calling in at my local RSPB place (which has a nice cafe), just as the last few members of some cycling club/group were locking up about 25 bikes to the Sheffield stands. I was on my bike, but had only gone there to buy some bird seed. Anyway, I made some comment about lots of bikes, or something (not particularly witty, but not that inane), and the few blokes left just ignored me. No reply, no smile, no nothing.

Miserable sods.

They must have been out for some kind of fun run (rather than training) or they wouldn't have been stopping at a tea shop!
