Don't use Kryptonite locks you might as well use cheese. I had my first Brompton nicked when it was locked with a supposedly feck off NY Krptonite D-lock to a Sheffield stand. The only D-locks worth buying are Abus and then only the Abus Granit X-plus. How much do you value your bike? Use two of them through the frame and each wheel to the stand which should be concreted into the ground and totally solid.

No lock is 100% unbeatable but I guess you know that. We can only buy time with a lock. If somebody wants your bike badly enough then given the opportunity they will take it, regardless what lock you use.

But none of my bikes have been stolen using x2 Abus Granit X Pluses. Always park your bike next to an apparently flashy bike with a cable combo or Krpyonite lock. The thieves will go for these and leave yours.

I use Kryptonite and my bike has never been stolen.

Check.

So that would make my kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit Mini lock like cheese (if I'm to believe what you posted before) I have heard good things about the Abus Granit X Plus here but I was after a mini lock and Abus doesn't do a mini D-lock that is as good as the Fahgettaboudit.

Using x2 Abus Granit X Pluses is a very good way to try to protect your bike but luckily I don't live in an area where I feel the need to carry 2 big locks with me and my bike is not an expensive bike but it's very dear to me as I put it together.

..... but since you are such an expert on kryptonite d-locks I'm considering throwing my mini lock away now and have a complete rethink on how I best protect my bike

There is the Abus Granite X plus shorter D-lock. I have the longer 54cm variety to ensure going through frame and wheels at each end on any bike stand. But at the moment I don't use them as I ride my Brompton which doesn't get left in any public space.

The OP is asking about locks for work, so I imagine they are going to leave them at work which means weight is not an issue.
I use two Abus Granite 54-X d locks, a 230mm and a 300mm, at work to lock each wheel to the frame and an Almax chain with squire lock to lock the frame to the building.
No guarantee my bike will not be stolen but it would take a determined well equipped bike thief to steal it, who ignores the 120db motion sensitive alarm going off, all visible from where my desk is.

That is just about the best security you can get with D-locks and chains!!!!

I use a Kryptonite lock and i'm still wondering why it's a crap lock... surely it's not as crap as a 6 quid combination lock from Halfords?

Abus also look really expensive, I know it's a vicious circle but not everybody can spend 150 quid on a lock. That's half the cost of my bike!

My locks are more expensive than my main commuter bike, I bought them when I only had the one bike but realised I may purchase something better in the future.
My main commuter bike may not have great real value but it's sentimental value is off the charts^_^ .

NY Locks had an issue many years ago with the circular keys. They've not been made for years. The new NY's are fine - I use a NY Fagh mini, with a couple of other locks, to secure my bike. You can get the Fagh for about £70 if you look round (Parkers).

I think you have the 30cm. 54cm would be too bloody long ^_^

23cm is the shorter version. Maybe next time I buy a lock

The Abus Crankarm was on referring to are in the same price bracket as the mini Kryptonite I have. The longer version is a few quids more expensive. The price bracket is £70 - £85
