I got on pretty well with the Electron halogen 5+10W pair for two winters, but they've been retired and it's now AY-UP lights for me !
Had them on for over a week now since it's still not quite sunrise any more at 6am when I set out to work. Considering that it's not really 'winter darkness' yet, I can't say just how good they are in those conditions - but they do get me seen, and they're lighting up reflective signs that are quite some distance ahead.
They've also been on when I go home, since it's dull and overcast most nights so the extra visibility they give me means people are less like to pull out having not seen me...
