A Few weeks ago i was talking about buying myself a nice new road bike, as ive never really been attracted to them.

Anyway, i took the plunge and purchased a brand new Specialized Allez 2012 Triple, after about 7 days and 200 ish miles later, my phone goes off.

Its the company that i purchased my bike from, contacting me to tell me that my bike has just arrived in store! and its ready to collect!

Now i had the dilemma, do i:-

A) Explain that i already had my bike

B) Go down and collect my free bike and take the risk of being recognized ande it made to look a fool

C) Pay the £15 over the phone and have it delivered

anyway, being me i took a risk and chose C, explained i couldnt make it down and wanted it delivered.

So now im sat here with a new specialized i use everyday for lovely riding, and i also have a Allez in a box behind my door incase they contact me and

explain that theres been a mix up.

So now my question to you guys, since you all are the fountain of eternal knowledge and cleverness!

How long should i keep hold of it before their mistake becomes their fault? is the a time limit before they cant start phoning saying "You owe us a bike or £600!"

ideas? recommendations?

Legally its still not your bike, and Specialized can get you to send it back at any time. Your in an even bigger fix by requesting delivery of a bike that you know is not yours.

You need to write them a letter and tell them of their mistake, and ask what to do next.

Think about the poor soul who is waiting eagerly for their new bike to arrive, having saved up for 10 years, only to find that it doesn't come. But the shop says they've delivered it, then they have to start arguing with the shop and their whole experience, which they've looked forward to for 10 years, is ruined.

They mucked up but instead of putting them right you've now become a part of the mess and will ultimately have to suffer some inconvenience in order to get it sorted out. There was no dilemma. A) was the only honourable response.

You're now going to look like a tool any way when they realise their mistake and you have to admit to receiving a bike to which you had no right.

MTFU, swallow your pride and put it right sooner rather than later and you may retain some dignity, which you won't if they have to come after you.

Ive just contacted my LBS from where i purchased it, spoken to the manager about the duplicate bike and explained what's happened, hes confident enough in saying that he's not fussed, since ive paid for the bike that came from his stock, but since my bike was dispatched from Specialized in Southhampton but he does'nt sound confident enough with what i should do next.

Should i let it lay for a few months to see if specialized contact myself about the bike, because it would be just my luck that i contacted a multi million pound company about a £600 bike that they "POSSIBLY" dont know about?

I can understand if i was putting a LBS out of profits, but a company like specialized?

I recon the LBS will be getting a bill shortly for said bike. One has gone from his stock (to you) and somehow another has arrived - I can see the LBS getting a bill soon, then he'll be on to you.

The bike isn't yours. Is your call ? I am a strong believer of what goes around, comes around !

why does the word Thief come to mind? doesn't matter how you acquired it - that's really what you are, and by setting up delivery - thats fraud

You done the decent thing there - now just leave it boxed up and sit tight for 6 months. If they take it back fine - if they dont its yours.
Simples.
