Well, hence the going to the bike shop(s).
I tell them what I need it for, what I have in mind/have looked at online - gives them an idea of my price bracket, at which point they step in with the expertise to tell me what they recommend.
I'm not devoted to getting the exact bike I've thought of on my own, I just found the Trek website easiest to find an example "I want something like this I think" to take to the shop with me
(Doesn't help that I work I am stuck on IE6 and that's too antiquated for a lot of sites!)
Looking at online reviews, as with very many things, it seems that those that like the 1.2, love it; and those that dislike it, hate it!
