Have you checked that it is level?
Not yet, but I will tomorrow. It could be that because I am sore I am pushing myself a bit forward instead of sitting back properly but I will keep an eye on it, there is also 18 stone of weight on that saddle and whatever gets in the way.

Ha, I didn't mean it like that exactly. I was searching online about this problem and was reading about how trapping or pressuring the nerves and certain areas of the body cause it - 18 stone of weight potentially helping that along!

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Your back side will stop paining on rides quickly but padded shorts always dull that and legs get stronger as you slowly progress your miles,on my commute I do know I remember getting taken by a old chap on a bone shaker, I do the scalping now,

Agree with Berties. Get some cyclng shorts. I just got some and wow what a differance.

I wore some padded shorts today; the little bumps in the road certainly caused less of a shock to my body.

I did 6.1 miles today but towards the end the numbness on the front was slowly appearing. My mind all the way around was on my seating position and I must say the pressure all felt to be in the right place. Am I over thinking this, is it simply the cold/wind causing it? Unfortunately I was riding into the wind a lot of the way!

Also the saddle looks to be perfectly horizontal.

Once you start concentrating on your bum hurting it is very difficult to think of anything else else and yes you can become almost obsessed. Relax. Only go as far as is comfortable. Stop when you have had enough. You can always go out tomorrow. Give hourself a day of rest. Enjoy the ride and don't think about distances, times, speed or anything else. Just enjoy the ride. Nothing else matters. After a while things will come together, get easier and before you know it, you will be going further and for longer. Dont be disheartened. These things take time, but with perseverance everything will jell.

Just be careful you don't overdo it early on.

You don't want cycling to become a chore, which it could do if you throw yourself into it.

Saddle width is important too so your weight is taken on the bones in your bum. Some shops apparently have a sit-on device which can tell you how wide your pelvis is and what size saddle to buy, or you can get yourself measured (by a close friend/partner) and go from there. Lots of info on the Specialised product site here http://www.specialized.com/specs/spec.jsp?speccode=bodygeometrysaddles

Good luck and keep riding!

Well I did 15 miles yesterday and just completed 9.3 miles now.

There is still a tingling, but I feel like I am sitting better now, making sure the pressure is towards the back and not spread out. I am also getting off the bike two or three times for 30 seconds.

Looking again today at the saddle it may ever so slightly be point up, I intend to make the most minor downward adjustment possible (if possible!), just waiting for my tools.
