At the current time with bikes so cheap, I would always buy second hand.
I also do the same with bino's, saves a fortune and I have yet to buy a duff pair.
Yep, I just don't know anything about Campag (consumable more costly), and I don't like Shimano

I think about geo like this. I will ride to the coast on 160 mile rides and everyone on aggressive race bikes when most of us don’t even race. Comfort has to be worth sacrificing for a bit of head tube height.

But it's no slouch - in fact it's the fastest bike I own. For me it actually does what Dolan say - - fast and responsive but not a back breaker.
Now I have a Merida which is much more stable bike - and great for assured descending and riding over cob holed roads - you sacrifice a fair bit of speed though.
