Maker of Things
The thing that gets me about ghost sightings/stories is that the majority of them seem to be about some bloke/woman who died under suspicious circumstances in 17 hundred and something in some really old building that is now haunted by their spirit. Whoooooo! You rarely get any stories about some bloke who died in 1999 who's spirit now wanders the 2 bedroom Barratt home he once lived in, making cheese and ham toasties and a cup of tea. If that's what ghosts are meant to be then given the population rise over the past couple of hundred years and the much higher murder rate, then that scenario (and ghost sightings in general) would be much more plausible.

The bloke I 'saw' coming into my Scottish hotel room was modern, hence my annoyance at someone coming in, until he wasn't there when I looked.

One of my neighbouring houses, which has been converted to flats, is supposed to be haunted. Tenants have reported hearing babies crying even though there are no babies in the area. Back in the fifties, apparently, a woman lived there who was carrying out illegal abortions. Some say there might be a connection. I've never heard them myself.
In another neighbouring house there are supposed to be modern ghosts often seen on the stairs according to the previous owner. I must find out if the new owners have seen anything.

Logically, I don't believe in ghosts. But my grandma told me once that just after her husband died, she saw him come in and sit on the bed and he spoke to her. She was in bed at the time, so it's easy to write it off as being a dream. I believe that she believed it was real, I'm just not sure whether I believe that it did actually happen or not. I don't believe in ghosts, but when someone you trust tells you that they are so sure that they saw one...

I also crap myself whenever an animal seems to see something in an empty space.

Which story do yo wanna hear?

1984. GF and I parked up in woods at what is Elmdon Park where the Hall gardens were.
GF asks "What's that?".
There was the white upper torso of a man floating across the lane ahead in the headlamps. We both saw it. Totally white with no legs.

Pronto exito.

The bungalow across the road had new owners. They mentioned the noises in the night and their ornaments changing position on the shelves where they put them.
The bed in the master bedroom would shake in the night ( NO! not what your thinking ).
When they came to re-wallpaper, after stripping off the ( what looked like new wallpaper but a hideous pattern they didn't like ) old wallpaper, the entire room, walls ceiling and eventually the floorboards too were painted gloss black.
The Vicar was called in and did his thing. The noises continued and now the lady on her own lives there defiantly and tells whatever makes the noise it will not frighten her.

In the 'Coldroom' at Lucas Electrical, Great King Street, ( where I worked ) a chap in a brown lab coat would come walking through without saying a word. An apprentice asked who the chap was and the reply was "Oh, that's Charlie, he froze to death in 1972."

Christmas 1968, my cousin Pam got a Ouija Board. Unbelievable things happened and then there was the smell of human excrement.

There is a ghost which walks up and down Block 1 at Land Rover Solihull, the first block to be built for the Shadow works building engines for tanks before WW2.
Reports from a few employees are the spirit is a middle aged lady in a white dress.
My Grandmother was the grand daughter of the man who previously owned the land where Block 1 stands. She died in 1938, two years after the Shadow works were built.
As a girl, she walked and played in the woods and fields where Block 1 stands.
Call me superstitious, but every time I walk into Block 1, I whisper "Hello Nelly".

I told my ex-wife I had made public this episode of our love-life. She didn’t mind at all. Then she reminded me of something that happened many years after.

When my youngest son was 2 to 3 years old, he had an imaginary friend. The imaginary friend was known as John the Pilot.

This enthralled me so I went round to visit my Uncle who had a photo of his brother John in full dress RAF uniform from early 1939.

My uncle John died in 1942 when the Halifax he was Flight Sergeant Engineer in crashed on decent into Elsham Wolds.

I got the photo and placed it on display on the kitchen table but didn’t say a word.

My wife lifted our son so he could see the photo and he immediately announced “John the Pilot”.

A friend of mine used to have a haunted camera!

He used to get a white mark on all the pictures he took and when he googled it it was apparently an 'Orb' and he was advised that it was a spirit following him and that was why the orb appeared in each image.

It magically diappeared when the camera was serviced an the lenses cleaned

Don't suppose he was wearing a helmet either?

I also crap myself whenever an animal seems to see something in an empty space.

We used to have a cat which on a few occasions went into one corner of the living room where there was no furniture etc. just bare walls and she would stand there, staring at something with every hair on her body erect. This would last about 30 secs and then she would get back to normal. It was quite clear that she was looking at something. I haven't a clue what it was. The house was relatively new but it did stand on the site of an old one.
