I reckon they're fine. I only feel they wont work if you dont have plenty of air in the tyre.

A tip for drying rubber solution in damp weather that I picked up in the local tyre centre. Rub the solution on as normal and then set fire to it for a few seconds with a lighter before blowing it out again. Then apply the patch.

Well, this morning the tyre was half flat again - not sure if that was due to my application of the patch (it was a bit crinkled in one point when I took the tube out, so maybe I didn't put it on totally flat - had to go over the seam) or something else, but I couldn't find any puncture anywhere. The patch wouldn't come off, and I didn't really want to put a patch on a patch, so decided to change the tube. Don't think it's my day, as I must have not seated the new tube right, it blew off just after I had fitted it with an almighty bang - must have pinched it somewhere near the valve hole. Anyway, new tube on now and (touch wood) so far no further bangs. Don't know what's going on tho, normally I get a p*ncture every few months - the past couple of weeks have been ridiculous! Glas, thorns, whatever debris there is, I seem to pick it up! ARGH!!!!

There are some folks around where I live who have more money than sense.
My LBS always has tubes with punctures from 'poor' individuals who take their bike in for a puncture repair.

The kind lads in the LBS give me the punctured tubes and after an hour and some patching, I have spare tubes coming out of my ear-oles.

There are others who,,, only use a tube once. Puncture = scrap.
Bulk buying, as they argue, is less expensive than repairing - including the time it takes to sit at home rubbing with emery cloth and waiting for the rubber solution to dry. Time is money, right?
Nope, They don't know how !!
