With the Danish piece, it's looking more and more like a 'Tour of Europe' every year! Am still surprised by the Galibier finish this year - have they run out of mountain top finishes in Italy?!

Good publicity for the Giro if it happens, another transfer nightmare for everyone on the race. The Giro is one of the worst races for ridiculous transfers. It's one thing popping over a border into the next country, but it's getting out of hand when the Giro starts thousands of km from Italy. USA next, you see...

Well let's make sure we remember the point that Ireland has a very fine and illustrious record in cycling so this is fantastic for the whole of the island.

Very happy it's now confirmed. Ireland as a whole is slowly selling itself as a good place to host events (irrespective of a few eejits making us all look like dole sponging rioters)

The first true road stage is going to be interesting when the route is released. Purely to see where it goes and if it avoids the A2 Coast Rd (which given it's stonewalled is likely but would make for some brilliant footage/pics)

Things are on the up for our lovely wee island.

ps: wonder will the then British champ be able to wear his jersey?

It would also be nice to do down the Ards peninsula but I doubt waiting for the ferry to Strangford would make for dynamic bike racing.

Use dinghy's and make it a pseudo cross race? Paddles must be bike mounted
Better wait in Portaferry and have a quick pint I reckon ;-)

Edit: Re-thinking your previous post, I realise you mean the stretch of the A2 by the Mourne Mountains (as opposed to the bit that came to mind round the Glens of Antrim). It would look really great down there and also going round Carlingford Lough too.

Great news for Northern Island, the locals and probably local business... but I can't help but feeling that it's getting a little bit silly now... can't help but feel that the riders are being treated like performing seals or something.
