On the subject of retrospective testing, I think it provides a pretty good deterrent to those thinking of using today's "undetectable" PED, surely?

Yes. Quite apart from the fact that retroactive testing can right wrongs that we did not know were committed at the time, the thought that taking something that can't be detected yet still might return a positive further down the line ought to be an effective deterrent.
