I'm 5'8" and had a bike fit esp for the Defy...."S" was the size i needed..I rode both the medium and small and felt that the former was too long and i was a little stretched..Trouble is though that we are all different shapes and sizes so really try before you buy...I recently bought a Whyte hybrid(malvern) ..After visiting two bike shops both suggested a medium frame,(Just by looking at me and asking my height)..After a bit of research and a test ride i picked the small size which is a perfect fit..Its also the size Whyte recommend for someone my height...
I'm pretty sure most bike shops are 90% guaranteed to recommend the size they have in stock.

pretty sure bike shops fit road bike too small, as to ' copy ' the pros, you should never do what the pros are doing unless you are a semi or a pro. I've gone with a medium as I have a long upper body and need the extra top tube length, but the pros use small framed and just use oversized stems and ridiculously high seat posts! Back in when eddy merckx was racing he never used such a position ;)

Times change and so does sports science.

You won't know if you've picked the right size until you've tried both sizes and or managed to adjust you and the bike to fit each other. Here's hoping it works out!

All the above is great advice, just wish I had asked the sizing question, before jumping into a bike that was to big for me, and now back up for sale.

@Brucewaynelee @vickster & @Cyclist33

I have both my bikes on the slightly small size now (when the new Cube arrives) a 56cm Sintesi & 58cm Cube, even though the Cube actually measures up like a 56 & was advised to buy a 60cm Cube.

Not saying that that is right for everyone, just suits my neanderthal body better.

@Cuchilo :hello: have you seen the £ prices on the new 2015 Giant range ??
they seem to be much more attractively £ than previous years.

2015 Propel looks VGVFM & I could be tempted if I hadn't already broken the bank.

So many gorgeous bikes & so little £££/time, ahh well.

Yes they do seem better value for money but they have messed around with some of the parts and the names . The TCR is now using the advanced frame but not the advanced forks and the advanced range has been replaced by a pro range . Or something like that :wacko:
