The AR is more gravel focused I believe whereas the SL1 is more road orientated. That’s my understanding anyway. There is a real shortage just now so I’ll be waiting a good while before I can buy one anyway. At least I have my hybrid!

It is more gravel focused but in the real world for most 'casual' riders there is very little real difference. the margins between bike niches are often very small.

No disrespect re the term casual and good effort for getting 500 miles in across winter but at 30 miles or so a week (accepting it will go up as Spring arrives) that's quite casual use; why do you want to dispense with your Hybrid so soon after purchase>

I do plan to keep the hybrid. I want a road bike to be able to go a bit further and faster once the better weather hopefully arrives. The hybrid is good but I think there is a bit of a glass ceiling with it as once I’ve ridden 40+ miles in one ride I find my hands and arms get a little sore from the lack of available hand positions.

I had the triban 520. Plenty of threads about a wheel set swap. £250 for that. Bike was great and vfm with high spec.

If you buy a bike this year you're going to get fleeced because of the virus fallout. That applies to both new and secondhand purchases. VFM is just poor ATM, and will remain so until things get back to normal. Either swallow it or wait out this year. If you currently have a bike of some sort, then a new/different one is not an important priority in the scheme of things.
