Getting oil out

Hi there,
Any tips for getting oil out of clothing??? Bought a new jersey and wore it for the first time today. Sod's law...as I was putting the bike onto its hanger, the bike swung towards me and I now have a nice chain mark across the front!!!

Vanish stick works well.

Alternatively, if you haven't got the oil mark wet, or near any water, you can rub it with Swarfega, but it must not get wet*. After a good rubbing it can then be rinsed in water and the oil should have gone. It worked when Arch leaned on the chain ring of her trike and got a chain mark on her white cycle top.

*If the oily mark has been washed or wetted with water then the Swarfega may be rendered ineffective, even when the top is dried out.

Feel for you...first time I went on the trike in light grey trousers, similar. The passageway between houses is about 4" wider than the trike but at the end there is a stench pipe blocking the way so i have to lift and tilt. Stood the wrong side as I tilted drive side towards me...lovely detailed chain print diagonally up the leg. If it had been deliberate it could have been designer cycling gear.

Luckily I'm a scruffy beggar so wear them anyway...8 months later it's fading..not gone, but fading

Brake and clutch cleaner - been using it for years and it is by far the best thing for oil stains. Even lifts engine oil off our cream carpet.

Thanks for all of the advice...think I'll try the WD40 (as I've got some) and if it doesn't work I'll nip out and get some Vanish

Swarfega or similar hand cleaner works for me. Rub it in until the stain more or less goes, then into the washing machine. Washing-up liquid also works in a similar fashion.

Did it work Russ? The suspense had been killing me!
YES!!! Sorry, should have updated earlier. Not sure which method though (will have to check with Mrs L later). I gave her your ideas and left a can of WD40 in the kitchen (however have noticed that we have a stick of Vanish in the cupboard now so maybe she attacked it from both directions!!!)
