We used to do it a lot, not so much now. At one time we owned 4 caches and enjoyed seeing the pleasure people got from finding them. Just before we got married we founf a bug, a small plastic crocodile called Cody who wanted to travel. We took photographs of it on a beach in Fiji, then looking at Syney Opera House before dropping it at a bug hotel in the Botanical Gardens. I hope the children who owned it were pleased.

Now I have a new phone with gps on board I might have to download the app and give it a go again.

For traditionalists "letter boxing" on Dartmoor was the original version

It is still a brilliant idea, but lay off the GPS

It is a superb way of teaching or learning navigation, then using the GPS to confirm as you get close

Just downloaded the geocaching and c:geo apps. The free geocaching one limits the ones you can get details for, so you buy the full version. I will stick to c:geo. There are a couple of new ones near me, we might go for a stroll after tea and try out the app.

There are a fair few in Bradgate Park, one of the better ones was an old beer can hidden under some rocks

Yep, we've got that one.

One of ours was at Wistow, we advised prople to park at the rural centre then gave the co-ordinates of church at Newton Harcourt. They needed to count the stone balls and find the bridge number over the canal. A bit of plugging into the next co-ordinate set led them to the cache East along the canal. From there their route back to the centre via Wistow church was obvious. I got many great comments from people for that as it gave a very pleasent 2 mile circular walk.

Take the kids out with me. It gets them on their bikes and they love a good hunt. We are planning our first cache, but I think my hiding place will be too devious.

We've just been out for a walk and bagged a couple, thoroughly enjoyed it. C:geo and a 4G connection make it so much more straightforward. When I started it was with a chunky yellow Garmin walking GPS and you had to punch the co-ordinates in.
