The ride quality is fine, although the MTB is better due to wider/lower pressure tyres (it runs on City Jets). It's more the drivetrain that feels worse generally on the road bike, which i just put down to being a lower grade than the already low grade Altus. Toni's Merida is new and has the current Altus, which is again a step up from both of my bikes. To be expected, I suppose, as it's probably done about 500 miles from new in the couple of months she's owned it. That said, I did try an experiment before our ride today in that I lubed the chain with Scott Oil (as used on one of my motor cycles) rather than the dry lube I've been using. It was definitely better.
