wish you well .My first time with disc brakes, tuning a pain, never done owt like hydraulics ,good reports on the bb7 so worth a squeeze on the shelf ,its a day 1 20 so nexus 8 as I am used to ,don't use dynamo any more move lights from bike to bike and no drag but willing to live and learn

I managed to bag a good price in Di2 hydraulic brakes setup, which i use on other bikes. The difference was night and day instantly. Ive been using hydraulic disc brakes for over 8 years, I would never get a bike with rim brakes

Im getting the SG7051 version, which has some upgraded internals.

Fair play to Shimano, they've obviously accepted the original Alfine 11 wasn't up to it and done something about it.

Is the range the same?

My old one was better than the other Shimano hubs at the time, but still no Rohloff beater.

Yes I believe it has the same range. Its more to do with bearings being upgraded. I think its a progression in development.

Rohloff is astronomical in cost.

Certainly is, although I've been pleased with mine.

I struggled to get a low enough (for me) first gear on the Alfine 11, despite tinkering with the sprockets/chain rings at both ends.

Using Sheldon Brown gear calculate for IGH

These are 3 different chainrings with 3 hub gears

With a 30t chainring and 22 gear lowest gear inches with 25mm tyres is 19 inches, pretty low
499306

That gives 4.5mph at 80rpm cadence

That might be roughly what I ended up with.

Strictly, it was outside Shimano's torque limits for the hub.

I expect that's part of the improvement.

The new one is more robust so can take a wider range of sprockets/chain rings.
