There is no set down numbers and each person is different. You have to experiment on yourself.

But keeping hydrated all the time is important. The way I do it is simple. It could be wrong but it works for me. Check your urine regularly during the day. It should be a very clear colour and not straw colour. If it is not clear drink more.

When I am riding I add half a tablet of electrolyte and magnesium Per bottle.

I give up....Clear urine is not healthy....it can mean one of a number of things, the most likely is that you are drinking too much fluid or have a poor diet with a high diuretic content, Caffeine, Alcohol etc or it could also be due to a more serious problems with you kidneys not functioning correctly.

define clear: not cloudy... cloudy urine is not healthy

colourless could be what you are thinking of.

Edit: and agreed - colourless urine is not healthy.

I did say it may be wrong.....but it works for me.

I commute 40km a day and cannot recall the last time I was ill.

Come on you lot stop sqabbling! There are no hard and fast rules but generally people, cyclists or not, don't drink enough. I understand there has been a rise in cases of kidney stones due to this. Cunobelin got it right when he said your pee needs to be a pale yellow. But you need to drink an awful lot to do yourself any harm. Riding down here in the heat I drink quite large quantities.
