After my maiden voyage yesterday I couldn't help but notice I had a pretty sore arse! I think my saddle may need some slight adjustment, but it's still not got much comfort factor, not much padding or owt!
It would seem the pain was coming from my "sitting bones", the existence of which I was blissfully unaware until yesterday.
Just wondering if anyone uses gel covers? And if so any brands they can recommend?
Saw these, not sure what to make of them.

I'll pick up some tools and have a fiddle with the saddle at the weekend ;)

pretty much what everyone else has said - they are not the way to go. Get out for a few more rides and it'll soon not bother you.

Amazing that so many have got into the market then! ;)

I shall have a fiddle with height and position at the weekend then, thanks ;)

Are you wearing padded shorts?

There are a few non-cyclists who go to the spin class and they had gel covers, always bloody saying how sore their arses were, then spent the whole class fecking about with the cover which slipped. After months of me getting on to them about padded shorts they eventually listened to me and got padded shorts....it's amazing how little some people listen ;)

Anyway, a few tweaks here and there with the saddle may work.

I had a gel cover a few years ago... It did nothing for me... I find that when I'm out on the bike now, the longer I'm in the saddle, the more comfortable it gets. ;)

You'll get used to it.

First few weeks of cycling always tend to hurt the backside, but it eases and then disappears once it's toughened up ! Not only does your bum get accustomed to it, but the saddle will have worn in and softened up a little too.

Last year I had to break-in a new saddle after one of the rails on my old one snapped. Boy, did that hurt for a couple of days until it softened up !

Stick with it - the sore bones will be gone soon.

Do women specific saddles make much difference, its just that I am planning on buying a ridgeback cyclone which is a unisex bike it seems and I don't want a sore bum:blush:
