All good stuff, I wish I had properly understood Gear Inches a few years ago instead of relying on 'instinct'.

One more thing to point out is that the closer in size that the cogs the chain is on, are...eg. front 34 tooth, rear 34 tooth, the closer you get to one turn of the pedals = one turn of the wheel. Which is generally such a low gear that hills become slow but easy to do.

If the front chainwheel ever gets smaller than the rear cog on the cassette, then one turn of the pedals is less than a turn of the wheels, which is great for even slower but steeper hills.

Yes I run, front first, 24/34 on one and 26/34 on the other of my 20" recumbent trikes. Slow but anything up to and including 33%, 1 in 3, is possible.
