Gearing - wisdom is handed down from ex-pros and bike builders you meet through the years.

I would say wisdom is the result of personal insight not hand-me-down heresay;)

I'd say it's the ability to judge what is true and right.

Insight yes, but insight based upon teachings from previous scholars.

where is the insight that is based upon anothers flawed thinking?

there is no original perception here just a slavish trust in anothers belief.

Insight is beyond thought.. it is simply the light that is revealed when the darkness falls away

Wow Peanut, you stayed up late.

I was well asleep by half past eleven resting for my ride to work.

Anyway Peanut, please show me the theory which dictates gearing on a bike.
Is it simply a 'finger in the air' guestimate, or is there something more substantial?

A 'slavish trust' eh. If I told you where the 'witchcraft' came from, would you be tempted to believe?
He rode for Great Britain in the Olympic Games.

just ribbin ya Jimbo.

I was talking Philosophy not bikes and that applies to everything that we know .

If we didn't have a few exceptional people throughout history that were able to put aside the past and think outside the known we wouldn't have advanced further than discovering fire

free thinkers are 1 in a million, copyists are everywhere

Cheers Peanut for being jokular.

See my Thread in 'Road rides, Audax etc' about Garmin Calorie counting.

A bit of thinking 'outside the box' lead me to consider there were 'hidden' factors in the Calorie formulation.
I could have simply believed what was being displayed, but my wisdom told me there is an untold system at work.

It took me ten years of research to formulate my Cals sheets, followed by confirmation from my peers.

I am a reasonable man, in every sense of the word...
