My OH's chain has done around 7,000 miles, as has the cassette, and no slipping yet.

Edit: Actually, that might be closer to 10,000 miles.

That's the good news. The bad news is they said I need a new chainring, cassette and chain. So looking at around £300 after Christmas.

Just re-read this and noticed how much you said the replacements were!

Seriously, learn to do this work yourself.. Even with full Ultegra kit, excluding sales prices, that is at most £200's worth - £150 if you take sales prices in to account. Even with the price of tools it will be less than £300.

If you went to 105 kit you could easily get the parts for under £100.
