I am soon to start doing youth circuit races, but for these races you are restriced to a gear development of 6.93m. I have worked out that using my 42 ring, combined with a 13 tooth on the rear will give we a devepment of 6.8 and therefore legal. I do not want to take my deraileur off completely, although I may have to do this to allow me o use all the gears whilst still on the 42 (middle ring). So how do I block my deraileur?

Cheers
Steve

Just use the limiter screws to screw it off.

Have you checked the gearing is right?

You might be able to switch your outer rings to 39/42 instead of 42/52 (or whatever they are) or use a set of track bolts to remove the outer ring all together.

Don't Think I want to remove the ring alltogether, because I may put it back to normal for roller racing/time trials/ general road riding imbetween teh circuit races.

Why? Gear restrictions exist for a reason.

Anyway, as regards general riding you should train on the gears you race on - or lower.

That it what I plan to do from now on.

And Dave do the same restrictions apply to both Road Racing and Time Trials?

I'll email the organisers about the gear restrictions on time trials.

Also with roller racing I think I am only going to do it as an in-club event so I don't think we will bother with gear restrictions - we certainately didn't last time.
